Week 7 — The Visioning Process: How to Design the Life You Truly Love
Have you ever wondered what it really takes to move from dreaming to living a life you truly love?
The bridge is built through a purposeful, practical process often overlooked: Visioning. More than wishful thinking, visioning is the active design of your future, aligning your thoughts, energy, and actions with your deepest aspirations.
This week, we move from understanding different types of thinking to the creative practice that brings your vision to life.
The Foundation: Begin with Gratitude
Visioning does not start with what you lack; it begins with what you have. Cultivating a state of gratitude creates the fertile mental ground from which new dreams can grow.
As my mentor, Mary Morrissey, profoundly teaches, “Gratitude is the mother of all virtues and is a feeling tone of abundance.” Before looking forward, take stock of your present blessings. This mindset of abundance is the essential first step in designing a life you love.
Step 1: Clarify with Specificity
What do you truly want? Envision all areas of your life: health, relationships, personal growth, finances, and contribution. Imagine your ideal scenario in each, free from current constraints.
The clearer your vision, the more powerfully it can guide you. As author Earl Nightingale succinctly put it, “People with goals succeed because they know where they are going.” Your vision is your destination on the map.
Step 2: Connect with Core Emotion
A vision without emotional fuel is just a list. Ask yourself: Why do these goals matter? What will achieving them make me feel? (e.g., joy, freedom, peace, fulfilment).
This emotional connection transforms your vision from a concept into a compelling force that sustains motivation through challenges. It’s the “why” that makes the “how” possible.
Step 3: Assess with Honest Awareness
With your desired future in mind, look honestly at your current reality in each area. Identify the gap not with judgment, but with curiosity. This awareness reveals the necessary steps, potential obstacles, and immediate opportunities.
Respect the inner nudge toward growth. As Mary Morrissey writes in Building Your Field of Dreams, “Respect the feeling inside you that’s nudging you towards a greater experience.” This awareness is that nudge becoming conscious.
Step 4: Direct with Clear Intention
Your vision becomes a reality through daily intention. It acts as a filter for your decisions, helping you focus on what truly aligns with your desired future. This focused energy is magnetic.
As Rhonda Byrne famously stated, “We become what we think about. Energy flows where attention goes.” Your vision determines where your attention—and therefore your life’s energy—flows.
A Living, Evolving Process
Visioning is not a one-time event. It is a living dialogue with your future self. As you grow, your vision will refine and expand. Regularly revisiting and adjusting it is a sign of wisdom, not inconsistency.
Your vision is the blueprint. You are the builder. By investing in this process, you move from being a passenger in your life to its masterful designer.
